NORTH BOWL PARKING LOT PHASE 1
Notice is hereby given that the University of California, Merced (UCM) intends to approve the North Bowl Parking Lot Phase 1 project. Project approval is expected to occur on or after December 31, 2010.
The project is located in the North Neighborhood subarea of UC Merced. Implementation of the proposed project would include construction of a surface parking lot on an approximately 2.5-acre site. The parking facility would include approximately 370 spaces to serve the campus’ transportation needs. The project will utilize permeable surface materials that aid in the reduction of flooding and non-point source pollution, minimize stormwater infrastructure costs, and maximize groundwater recharge and the ecological value of streams and other waterways within the project vicinity. Solar panels to serve the campus’ growing energy needs would be installed subsequently. The Project also includes a 110-foot extension of Mineral King Road, as well as additional roadway and utility improvements. Landscaping and safety lighting will also be installed, as well as a transit bus stop for passengers wanting to reach destinations closer to the campus core.

The Project includes approximately 71,250 assignable square feet (ASF) and 112,250 gross square feet (GSF) of space in two residential buildings. The Project will house approximately 350 students in a mixture of some single and mostly double occupancy rooms. In addition to residential accommodations, the Project will include additional spaces for studies, dining and conference services staff, housing services, storage, multipurpose and tutorial rooms, laundry, a communal kitchen, and a separate single-story maintenance building. The Site Development & Infrastructure Phase 6 Project proposes initial site improvements within approximately 711 acres of the UC Merced campus and within the 835 Community North area of the University Community. The Project site is considered undeveloped and currently being used as grazing land for cattle. Initial Site improvements activities include grading, development of unpaved roadways, and installation of wire fencing and erosion control measures. Upon completion of work, the project site will revert back to its use as grazing land for cattle until such time that more intensive development occurs as part of future development actions.

The Sierra Nevada Research Institute Informatics and Data Visualization Center Project proposes rehabilitation of the historic Wawona Ranger Station Garage to improve its use as a research and training facility for the Sierra Nevada Research Institute. The project proposes in-kind replacement of the existing wood shake roof and replacement of the non-historic door. Interior work will include the removal of non-historic materials and installation of new wall, floor and ceiling finishes, insulation, a fire suppression sprinkler system and alarm, upgraded electrical and data wiring and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Condition systems. The building's two research/conference rooms will each be furnished with six fixed workstations. Proposed utility upgrades include replacement of an existing propane tank and installation of a solar array immediately behind the garage.

The Student Services Building will accommodate student support programs for current and emerging instruction and research programs in a combination of tutorial; seminar; conference; dry research and office space. The project site is located east of Ansel Adams Road and north of the Social Science & Management Building in the North Campus District. This project is consistent with the land uses designated for this area as noted in the Campus Land Use Diagram (Figure 2.0-10, LRDP EIS/EIR, 2009). The building is anticipated to be completed in 2013.
